U.S. Marine Killed in Oceanside Motorcycle Crash Identified

Oceanside, California: The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the 20-year-old U.S. Marine who died in a motorcycle accident in Oceanside as Xander Allen Thorstad.

The accident occurred on July 7 near Douglas Drive and N River Road.

According to the Oceanside Police Department, Thorstad, who was an active-duty U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, was riding an Indian motorcycle southbound on Douglas Drive when a Volkswagen driven by a 64-year-old woman from Carlsbad made a left turn from northbound Douglas Drive into the AMPM gas station.

The Volkswagen hit the front fender of the motorcyclist, ejecting him onto the ground.

Paramedics pronounced Thorstad dead at the scene.

The woman driving the car was not hurt. She remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Authorities are investigating the collision but do not believe drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
