Victim, Suspect of Deadly Reseda Crash on West Vanowen St. ID’d

Reseda, California: The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the man who died in a multi-vehicle collision that happened Sunday morning in Reseda as 32-year-old Francisco Velasco-Marcos.

21-year-old Nicolas Velasco of Reseda was arrested following the collision.

The crash involved six vehicles and took place around 11:18 a.m. at 18153 West Vanowen Street.

According to authorities, Velasco-Marcos was driving a yellow Chevrolet Camaro at a high rate of speed alongside a white Dodge Charger eastbound on Vanowen approaching Chimineas Avenue.

The Dodge changed lanes and collided with the Chevrolet. Both vehicles lost control and slammed into several other vehicles.

Los Angeles firefighters responded to the scene to find three people, including Velasco-Marcos, trapped in the wreckage. Velasco-Marcos was pronounced dead at the scene.

The firefighters used hydraulic tools to free the other two parties.

Ten patients in total were evaluated for their injuries. Six were transported to local hospitals. The other four declined transportation.

Authorities said Nicolas was hospitalized with minor injuries and later arrested. He was booked into the Van Nuys Jail on suspicion of murder. His bail was set at $2 million.
