Walnut Creek Man Killed in 680 Freeway Crash in Fremont Identified
Fremont, California: The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau identified the Walnut Creek man who died in a multi-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck hauling meat on 680 Freeway in Fremont as 68-year-old Donald Eng.
The pileup was reported just after 7 a.m. on July 18 near Auto Mall Parkway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Eng was driving a Toyota Venza southbound on the freeway when his car was rear-ended by a semi-truck carrying a load of meat. The truck then struck at least three other vehicles before going down an embankment on the right shoulder of the freeway.
Eng was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other people suffered minor injuries in the crash. The patients were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
No other details were given, but an investigation is ongoing.
