Woman Airlifted After Car, Semi-Truck Crash on SR-18 in Apple Valley

Apple Valley, California: A woman was airlifted to the hospital after her car collided with a semi-truck Tuesday morning in Apple Valley.

The California Highway Patrol said the wreck took place around 9:15 a.m. on State Route 18 east of Milpitas Drive.

Investigators said a woman in a white Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on the highway when, for an unknown reason, she crossed over into the westbound lanes and collided with a westbound Double Eagle tractor-trailer.

The Apple Valley Fire Protection District responded to the scene and requested a helicopter to respond and airlift the woman to a trauma center.

The victim was first transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center by ground ambulance and then airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in unknown condition.

The big rig driver veered onto the left dirt shoulder to avoid a near head-on crash.

The driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Investigators closed SR-18 in both directions for about an hour following the accident.
