Woman Dies in Tulare County Crash Involving CALTRANS Dump Truck
Tulare County, California: A 39-year-old woman died in a Sunday morning traffic collision that happened on Highway 99 in Tulare County, the California Highway Patrol said.
The wreck was reported around 7:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Avenue 9.
Authorities said a 39-year-old Bakersfield woman was driving a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander approaching an unoccupied CALTRANS Freightliner dump truck parked within the center median in a repair zone used by CALTRANS for guardrail repair at its location.
Both southbound lanes were open for travel, and the median shoulder was closed off by cones.
CHP said, for an unknown reason, the female driver crossed over the cone pattern and slammed into the rear of the dump truck.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are investigating the collision.
