Fresno, California: 71-year-old Maria Trinidad Esquivel of Clovis was the woman who died in a Monday night DUI collision on Highway 99 in Fresno, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

The California Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred around 9:15 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway south of Second Street.

CHP said a 61-year-old Van Nuys man was driving a Chevrolet Express van when he failed to stop as he approached a slower-moving Ford Explorer SUV, prompting a crash.

The SUV was propelled northeast and into a temporary concrete barrier.

The section of Highway 99 is under construction.

Esquivel was the left rear passenger of the SUV and died in the crash.
