Woman Killed in Ramona Crash on SR 78 near Weekend Villa Rd

San Diego, California – A 44-year-old woman was killed in a DUI car crash that happened on Saturday morning in Ramona.

The accident happened at around 7:30 a.m. on Highway 78 near Weekend Villa Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 26-year-old Ramona man was driving a car on the highway when he drifted into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Ford Edge SUV. The impact of the collision caused the SUV to roll off the road.

The 44-year-old Ramona woman who was the sole occupant of the Ford SUV was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

The man fled the scene after the collision but was later apprehended at his residence and was arrested on suspicion of DUI, hit and run and vehicular manslaughter.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
