Inflation allowance: these French people who might not receive a bonus

Published

on

This is a bonus well awaited by millions of French people at the end of the year 2021. The inflation allowance amounts to 100 euros and was put in place by the government in order to respond in particular to the explosion in fuel prices. gas, electricity and fuels. Eligible French people, those earning up to 2,000 euros net per month, should benefit automatically, for the most part, without any action to be taken. With payments scheduled between December and February depending on the case. However, a million citizens may never receive this money. The director of the Urssaf Yann-Gaël Amghar warns and explains why, Monday, December 20, to the Parisian.

The organization is responsible, more or less directly, for more than half of the payments of this bonus to 38 million beneficiaries. Three million of them must collect it directly through Urssaf. These are self-employed and home-based workers. However, according to Yann-Gaël Amghar, the organization has not yet received all of the bank details of the individuals concerned. “We lack [those] of 500,000 self-employed and 500,000 home-based workers,” he says.

Stimulus campaigns organized

Yet the Urssaf is well on its way to paying the inflation allowance. According to its director, on Wednesday (December 15th), 660,000 self-employed workers received the 100 euros promised by the executive. A second payment to 380,000 home workers is scheduled for Monday. And a third will occur on December 22, this time to 700,000 autoentrepreneurs. This is a bonus paid to a total of just over 1.7 million people. Far from the three million eligible beneficiaries who must receive a transfer from the Urssaf “inflation compensation”.

“This is because we do not have the bank details of all eligible people. We have those of 70% to 75% of the self-employed. But the big difficulty, it is the employees at home, “thus justifies Yann-Gaël Amghar to the daily newspaper. And to alert those who have not yet provided these details: “If the people eligible for the bonus do not give us their bank details, they will not receive the 100 euros. The director of Urssaf specifies that a stimulus campaign has already been put in place for home-based workers. Another will be launched in January for the self-employed.

Zara Rutherford to become the youngest pilot in the world

Zara Rutherford, a teenage pilot, said that it was tough than she expected on Thursday after completing a solo, round-the-world flight to set a new world record. The 19-year-old landed in front of a mob of media, well-wishers, and relatives at an airstrip outside of the Belgian town of Kortrijk, claiming to be the world’s youngest woman to fly solo around the globe. On the 18th of August, 2021, she embarked.

She said during a press conference that it is weird to be back here after an incredible voyage. The Belgian-British teenager, had an epic journey of five months with stops in nearly 30 countries. She was looking forward to putting her feet up in just one spot for a time. “Next week, I’d prefer to do nothing,” she joked.

Rutherford is a dual citizen of Belgium and the United Kingdom. She answered questions in English, French, and Dutch. Her parents are pilots, and her father served in the Royal Air Force.

Previously, the youngest woman to fly solo around the world was American Shaesta Waiz, who was 30 at the time of her challenge in 2017. The youngest male record holder was 18.

The “scariest” portion of her trek, she continued, was Russia’s vast, an icy region of Siberia. It is a location of the overwhelming distance between habitations and temperatures below minus 30 degrees Celsius (-22 degrees Fahrenheit).

“I’d be driving hundreds of kilometers without seeing anything human — no electrical wires, no roads, no people. I’d think to myself, ‘If the engine stopped now, I’d have a pretty huge issue,'” she explained.

She had to avoid clouds and couldn’t fly at night while navigating the world in a 325-kilogram (717-pound) Shark UL single-propeller plane that gets given to her under a sponsorship contract. Because of the limitations, she had to divert or make emergency landings many times. This included taking to the ground early this month, only a short way from Dubai, to escape getting caught in the city’s first thunderstorm in two years.

She also spent most of November in Ayan, a Russian eastern coastal town. She could not leave the place due to bad weather, relying on kind people who were “quite prepared to help with everything I could need.”

Mauritius oil spill case sees captain receive 20 months in prison

Published

The grounding of the MW Wakashio caused, on July 25, 2020, the worst oil spill ever on the coast of Mauritius. The captain and his mate were sentenced to 20 months in prison on Monday, December 27. “The court took into consideration the fact that the two defendants pleaded guilty and apologized,” said Judge Ida Dookhy Rambarrun.

The Japanese bulk carrier ran aground on a coral reef in the south-eastern part of Mauritius, releasing more than 1,000 tonnes of fuel oil into its crystal-clear waters. Indian captain Sunil Kumar Nandeshwar admitted during the hearing that he had been drinking at a party hosted on the ship. He was found guilty, along with his second Sri Lankan Hitihanillage Subhoda Janendra Tilakaratna, of “endangering the safety of navigation” by a court in Port Louis.

The captain had consumed alcohol “in moderation”

The MW Wakashio, under the Panamanian flag, was en route from Singapore to Brazil, with 3,800 tonnes of fuel oil and 200 tonnes of diesel on board, which quickly began to leak, but the majority of which could be pumped out. “A birthday party had taken place on board and I had consumed alcohol in moderation,” said the captain during his trial, adding that he had given instructions to approach Mauritian waters in order to capture the telephone network , to allow crew members to contact their families. “The sea was bad but the visibility was clear and it was safe to navigate. At one point, the vessel could not move and had touched the seabed. As I had had a few drinks, it didn’t seem useful to intervene and it didn’t occur to me that we were sailing so close, “he added.

This oil spill was the worst marine pollution in the history of the country which depends on its waters for its food security and for ecotourism, in an area which is among the most beautiful coral reefs in the world. The south-eastern coast of Mauritius has two classified sites: Blue Bay, known for its corals, and Pointe d’Esny, rich in mangroves, crucial ecosystems in the face of global warming. From the first days, the inhabitants mobilized, working tirelessly with makeshift resources, to contain the pollution. In the months that followed, thousands of people protested on the island, criticizing in particular the government’s handling of the oil spill.
