Man Killed in Wrong-Way Collision on Highway 101 in San Jose

San Jose, California: A 22-year-old San Jose man died after his car collided with a big rig while he was traveling the wrong direction Friday morning on Highway 101 in San Jose.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred just after 11:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway near Blossom Hill Road.

Investigators said the San Jose man was driving a Honda sedan when he entered the southbound lanes of the highway at Blossom Hill Road and started driving northbound.

The driver of a southbound big rig swerved to avoid colliding with the sedan but was not successful.

The vehicles collided, causing the sedan to spin out, coming to a rest on the center divider. The big rig stopped blocking the two left lanes.

The Honda driver was ejected in the crash. Responding Santa Clara County medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene around 11:31 a.m.

The big rig driver was not hurt.

Authorities said the big rig acquired extensive damage to the truck portion, causing diesel to spill.

The left two lanes of the highway were closed for an extended period during the investigation and as crews cleaned the spilled fuel.

Sacramento County, California: Two people were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle collision that happened Thursday afternoon at an intersection in Antelope.

According to the Sacramento Metro Fire District, the accident occurred around 1:50 p.m. at Antelope and Roseville roads.

Three vehicles collided, trapping two occupants in the wreckage.

Firefighters responded to the scene and freed the victims. The patients were taken to the hospital with major injuries.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.

Irvine, California: 65-year-old Kenneth Joseph McLeod died after he collided with a car while riding a motorcycle Wednesday afternoon at an intersection in Irvine.

The accident was reported around 4:50 p.m. at Alton Parkway and Foster.

Investigators said McLeod was riding a motorcycle southbound on Alton when he ran a red light at Foster and crashed into a Tesla turning left from northbound Alton onto westbound Foster.

The Tesla had a green light at the time of the crash.

McLeod died at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Victorville, California: A woman riding a motorized wheelchair was injured when she was hit by a car Thursday morning at an intersection in Victorville.

The accident was reported around 8:48 a.m. at Roy Rogers Drive and Amargosa Road.

Victorville police, firefighters, and AMR responded to the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

A man driving a black Nissan was found at the scene but it was not clear if he was the driver involved in the accident.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
