Driver Dies Days After Crashing into Jackknifed Van Pulling Trailer on SR-371 in Cahuila

Riverside County, California: A 72-year-old man died days after his car collided with a jackknifed van pulling a travel trailer last week in Cahuila.

On July 18 at about 9:42 p.m., authorities received reports of a 2019 Ford Transit van towing a 2003 Carso Fun Runner travel trailer blocking State Route 371 north of Cahuila Creek Bridge.

Shortly after, at about 9:57 p.m., authorities received another call about a crash involving the van and another car.

When authorities responded to the scene, they found out that a 72-year-old Orange County man was driving a 2024 Toyota Camry southbound at about 45-55 mph when he failed to see the stalled vehicle and crashed head-on into the trailer’s left rear corner.

The Orange County man was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in critical condition.  He later died on Tuesday, July 23, at about 8:40 p.m. while receiving treatment at the facility.

A 66-year-old female passenger in the Camry was taken to Inland Valley Hospital Wildomar with minor injuries.

No other person was hurt in the crash.

The collision is under investigation by the CHP Temecula Area Office.

Sacramento County, California: Two people were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle collision that happened Thursday afternoon at an intersection in Antelope.

According to the Sacramento Metro Fire District, the accident occurred around 1:50 p.m. at Antelope and Roseville roads.

Three vehicles collided, trapping two occupants in the wreckage.

Firefighters responded to the scene and freed the victims. The patients were taken to the hospital with major injuries.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.

Irvine, California: 65-year-old Kenneth Joseph McLeod died after he collided with a car while riding a motorcycle Wednesday afternoon at an intersection in Irvine.

The accident was reported around 4:50 p.m. at Alton Parkway and Foster.

Investigators said McLeod was riding a motorcycle southbound on Alton when he ran a red light at Foster and crashed into a Tesla turning left from northbound Alton onto westbound Foster.

The Tesla had a green light at the time of the crash.

McLeod died at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Victorville, California: A woman riding a motorized wheelchair was injured when she was hit by a car Thursday morning at an intersection in Victorville.

The accident was reported around 8:48 a.m. at Roy Rogers Drive and Amargosa Road.

Victorville police, firefighters, and AMR responded to the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

A man driving a black Nissan was found at the scene but it was not clear if he was the driver involved in the accident.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
